December Event Outcomes (3–4 December 2025)

Event Overview & Outcomes

The IGM200 “Investment Ready” Workshop, held on 3–4 December 2025, marked a critical progression from awareness to technical readiness within the programme’s structured engagement pathway.

Building on the strong interest generated by the November seminar, the workshop was designed as a high-intensity, limited-capacity intervention aimed at equipping SMEs with the tools, knowledge, and insights required to engage credibly with investors.

The focus shifted from introducing concepts to developing practical capabilities and enabling structured self-assessment.

Selection and Participation

Demand for the workshop was strong and highly competitive, reflecting the success of the earlier engagement phase:

  • 201 applications received
  • 80 SMEs shortlisted through a structured selection process
  • 52 SMEs participated across the two-day programme
  • 46 SMEs attended Day 1, 44 SMEs attended Day 2

This selective approach ensured that participation was limited to businesses demonstrating commitment and readiness to engage more deeply with the investment process.

Technical Focus Areas

The workshop delivered a comprehensive, expert-led curriculum focused on the core pillars of investment readiness:

  • Governance frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Financial reporting and business structuring
  • Business valuation methodologies
  • Understanding investor expectations and decision-making

Sessions were facilitated by leading institutions, including EY, LEX Caribbean, SigniaGlobe, and Sagicor, ensuring both technical rigour and real-world relevance.

Participants were exposed to the standards required for engaging with investors, helping to bridge the gap between informal business practices and investor-ready operations.

Interactive Learning and Pitching

A defining feature of the workshop was its emphasis on practical application.

The Investment Readiness Pitching Segment provided selected SMEs with the opportunity to present mock investment pitches and receive real-time feedback from experienced professionals.

  • Rated 4.9 out of 5 for usefulness

“Seeing how investors think — and getting direct feedback — completely changed how I view my business.”

This component enabled participants to test their assumptions, refine their messaging, and gain direct insight into how investors evaluate opportunities.

Readiness Insights and Self-Assessment

A key outcome of the workshop was the shift toward disciplined self-awareness.

  • Approximately 65% of participants recognised gaps in their investment readiness
  • Over 70% requested follow-on support

Rather than creating unrealistic expectations, the workshop helped SMEs identify specific areas requiring improvement, including governance, financial reporting, and strategic clarity.

This represents a critical behavioural shift—from aspirational interest to informed, realistic progression.

Building a Credible SME Pipeline

The workshop successfully established a cohort of SMEs that are:

  • More informed about the investment process
  • Better aligned with investor expectations
  • Actively engaged in improving their readiness

This cohort represents the foundation of a credible SME pipeline—one that can be progressively developed through targeted support and structured engagement.

Validation of the Engagement Model

The December workshop also validated the effectiveness of the IGM200 programme’s structured approach.

By moving participants through staged engagement—from awareness to readiness—the programme ensured that SMEs progressed based on understanding and capability, rather than premature ambition.

This disciplined approach helps protect both SMEs and investors while strengthening overall market integrity.

Positioning for Phase 2

The outcomes of the workshop clearly indicate that the programme has reached a natural point of progression.

SMEs are now informed, engaged, and aware of their readiness gaps. The next phase will focus on:

  • Targeted remediation
  • Structured diagnostics
  • Controlled investor exposure

This will enable SMEs to move from readiness awareness to credible investment opportunities.

Conclusion

The December workshop served as a diagnostic and developmental inflection point within the IGM200 programme. It transformed informed interest into structured readiness, equipping SMEs with both the insight and discipline required to progress.

By establishing a self-aware and motivated pipeline of businesses, the workshop has positioned the programme for a more advanced phase of engagement—bringing Barbados closer to a sustainable and credible SME equity ecosystem.
